Citizens Help Stop Dangerous Driver in Therien
On April 10th, 2016, the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment received at 911 at 11:00 PM from a resident of Therien, AB who reported that a vehicle was driving erratically through the hamlet. Before police arrived, the vehicle had been stopped by some residents and an altercation ensued.
Police arrived in Therien, AB and located the suspect vehicle parked a residence. Through investigation police learned that the vehicle not only was driving erratically but had spit rocks at pedestrians and had backed into a citizen. The vehicle driver, a 20 year old male resident of St. Paul, AB had been taken by friends to the hospital for injuries sustained during the fight when residents tried to stop the driver from continuing to drive dangerously.
The male was arrested by St. Paul RCMP and transported to the RCMP Detachment once he was fit for incarceration. The male was released on court compelling documents to attend Bonnyville Provincial Court on May 17th, 2016 for charges of Assault with a Weapon x 2 and Dangerous Driving.
The RCMP are bound by legislation and policy regarding releasing the names of charged persons. While taking that into account, they also cannot release names before charges are formally sworn.
