Reader’s Digest Fraud

The Cold Lake RCMP are warning the public of a recent fraud complaint. The report says that a fraudster had called a 67 year old, Cold Lake woman, claiming to be a representative of Reader’s Digest and that the woman had won $350,000.

The female recognized something was fishy about the calla and before the scammer moved forward with any other claims, she hung up the phone. The savvy female then contacted the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and the local RCMP to make them aware of the call and the information she had from it.

RCMP say the female did everything right when dealing with fraud and urge the public to be aware of the signs of fraud and how to report the crime. More information on preventing fraud can be found on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s website, http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm.
