RCMP Stop Drunk Driver Thanks to Multiple Calls from Public
On March 13th, 2016, the Bonnyville RCMP received multiple 911 calls for service regarding an impaired driver on Hwy 659 heading westbound into Bonnyville. The complainants reported the vehicle was speeding and swerving into the oncoming lane. The vehicle was located by members of the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment who conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle. Vehicle occupants were observed switching seats in the vehicle just prior to speaking to police.
The original vehicle driver, a 29 year old male resident of Glendon, AB, was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and was transported to the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath resulting in readings just under 3 times the legal limit. The male was released once sober on court compelling documents facing charges of Impaired Operation, Impaired over 80 and Dangerous Driving.
The original passenger, a 28 year old male resident of Lloydminster, was found to be under GDL License regulations along with having alcohol with his system which resulted in a license suspension.
