The Waterfront Harbour Provides a New Standard of Bed & Breakfast in Cold Lake
There’s no better place to take in the beauty of a crisp late-winter day than enjoying a cup of hot cocoa on the deck of the Waterfront Harbour Bed & Breakfast in Cold Lake. You’ll get lost in the wonder and tranquility of a Northern Alberta snowfall and the grand lake’s frozen surface; life slows down as you’re able to breath in the chocolate laced air and enjoy the spectre of the dancing sky above. The Waterfront Harbour Bed & Breakfast was built on the wonder and beauty of Cold Lake. The B&B is inviting and warm, with lots of natural lights and beautiful scenery. Each room brings a different story and theme, with local artist creations hanging from the walls.
Owner Isabel Myshaniuk fell in love with Cold Lake while she was raising her family, not far away in Elk Point. When the children were young, Isabel and her husband, Marshal, would often take the family camping at the Provincial Park. They adored the lake’s vast waters, the wooden adventures the campground brought, and the small town atmosphere of the City.  Somewhere in her heart she knew she’d become part of the community, she just didn’t realize how that dream would form until years after her children were out of the home.
After 30 years of nursing, Isabel longed for a change and immediately thought of Cold Lake. Not ready to craft her afternoons away, Isabel wanted to open a business on the waterfront; she didn’t know what type of business that would be until spotting a for sale sign outside the bed & breakfast. She immediately thought of her niece, Shannon Schumacher, to join her on the adventure as her part-time innkeeper and chef. “Shannon is full of inspiration, she’s always pulling things off Pinterest and trying new things,” Isabel boasts her niece’s talents, with pride. It’s a family business.
Isabel is very proud of the reputation of the Waterfront Harbour to cater to individual needs, whether that’s a special breakfast request or a need to use the extra large parking in the back for a fishing boat, the Waterfront Harbour can help make it happen. They want every guest to experience the comfort of their own home, away from home. “We do a lot of special requests,” Isabel explains, while assistant Shannon is preparing a paleo meal for a guest, “a lot of people request gluten-free or paleo, or they may have allergies. Usually, if they’re here for a few days we’ll do a different breakfast each day.” The Waterfront Harbour is known for their delicious breakfasts; Isabel is the savory chef  and Shannon can tickle your sweet tooth. Guests often wake to the smell of Eggs Benedict or a  Peach Cream Cheese French Toast.
The main floor of the bed & breakfast can host large or small parties in either of the two dinning rooms. The intimate dinning room seats 15, which is perfect for a group or family gatherings. There’s a living room with a large fireplace, for warmth & comfort, and a TV for entertainment on stormy nights. You can visit with friends in the reading room or enjoy the tasty creations from the kitchen. The first of seven bedrooms is privately located on the east wing of the main level. Off the back of the Waterfront Harbour is a large parking lot; ideal for adventurers bringing boats, quads, or ski gear. Guests can feel secure in keeping their toys close with parking and storage available on site.
Whether you’re looking for a vacation or stay-cation, a men’s trip ice fishing, a family sledding trip, or pampering your bridal party before the big day, the Waterfront Harbour Bed & Breakfast can help ensure that you have all the luxuries of a hotel with the comfort of home. . The upper level three room suite is large enough to accommodate group bookings and still allow for privacy of each individual guest. The Waterfront Harbour is able to keep it personal in the morning, says Isabel, “if we have big groups, we’ll do a few different dishes, so people will have a choice. If there’s six people or more, you won’t be limited to one breakfast choice, we’ll offer a few choices.”
There’s three rooms on the second floor, each with their own full bathroom, as well as a reading and games nook off the staircase. The Aurora Room is a personal favourite, with mystic pictures of the northern lights over an Alberta winter’s landscape hanging from the wall. The warm cool blue tones of the room are serene and inviting, with a balcony overlooking the lake. Sharing a balcony with the Aurora Room is a comfy room, with a vintage floral theme. The room’s large balcony is perfect for watching the Canada Day firework, as they flare and burst into the sky from the Marina. Across the hall is an over-sized room with an over-sized bed and a cozy fireplace; this room is loved by small families.
Local groups chose Waterfront Harbour B&B to help promote the city when hosting keynote speakers, when recruiting physicians and for special occasions. The bed & breakfast was named New Business of the Year at the 2014 Lakeland Business of the Year Awards and in 2016, and the Waterfront Harbour was “approved to be on the Government Accommodation List with special rates for federal & provincial employees.
The Waterfront Harbour provides a new standard of bed & breakfast. Luxury highlighted by exceptional service, beautiful amenities and thoughtful touches.
