Cold Lake RCMP Briefs

A couple of impaired drivers, an assault at the casino and a suspicious vehicle kept the Cold Lake RCMP busy throughout January 13-22nd.

Impaired in the Ditch 

On January 13th, at 11:00 am, Cold Lake RCMP were called regarding a possible impaired driver in the ditch, across from the Bottle Depot. RCMP attended the scene and arrested a 26 year old female, from Big Island Lake Cree Territory, Saskatchewan. The female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance. Her court date is February 24th, in Cold Lake.

Refusal to Provide Breath Samples

On January 15th, at 6:20 pm, the Cold Lake RCMP received two 911 calls regarding a vehicle that was swerving all over the road, partially driving into the ditch, and running red lights. The vehicle was travelling on Highway 55 and then turned on Highway 28 at the intersection north of the Energy Centre. A citizen followed the vehicle and observed it going in and out of the yellow and white lines.

Police responded quickly and located the vehicle. The driver, a 36 year old female, from Cold Lake, was arrested and refused to provide a breath sample. The woman has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, refusal to provide breath samples, as well as, failing to comply with an undertaking.

The woman was released for court, which will be February 24th, in Cold Lake.

Assault at the Casino 

On January 22nd, the Cold Lake RCMP responded to a complaint of an assault at 2:30 am. RCMP were called to the exterior of Casino Dene, where a female complainant was complaining she was grabbed by the wrist by male, who was unknown to her. The male also attempted to block the female from entering the casino.

The woman was able to break herself free and enter the casino and call for police. RCMP attended and arrested a 47 year old male, from Bonnyville. Charges of assault and disturbing the peace are pending.

The man will make his first court appearance on March 9th, in Cold Lake.

Suspicious Vehicle

On January 21st, at 9:30 am, Cold Lake RCMP observed a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Busy Bee Sanitary Supplies. RCMP noticed that all businesses in the area were closed, and deemed the vehicle to be suspicious.

The vehicle was pulled over and a small quantity of marihuana was seized from the vehicle. Charges have been laid against 23 year old, Christopher Hefford, of Edmonton. Charges include: 4 counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and obstructing a police officer, by providing a false name. Hefford has been remanded into custody.
