NLSD Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk Named President of Public School Boards’ Assoc. of Alberta

Northern Lights School Division Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk has been selected to serve a second term as President of the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta (PSBAA).

“I am looking forward to continuing to advocate for public school education in Alberta and ensuring our children are the focus when decisions are being made about their education,” Hrynyk said.

As PSBAA President, Hrynyk has advocated for policies that recognize the rights of the LGBTQ community in all publicly funded schools ; spoken out against cuts to education ; and championed the re-‐establishment of a provincial Student Voice initiative.

Hrynyk was re-‐elected as PSBAA President at the organization’s annual general meeting on Friday, October 23. She had previously informed the NLSD Board of Trustees of her intent to seek a second term as PSBAA President and received their unanimous support.

Hrynyk has been a Northern Lights Trustee since 2001 and has served as Vice-‐Chair or Chair of the Board since 2003. She has also served as the Vice-‐Chair and Chair of Zone 2/3 of the Alberta School Boards’ Association.
