Elk Point Avalanche Hit the Ice as NEAHL Tiering Gets Underway

The Northeast Alberta Hockey League (NEAHL) season has begun and is now tasked with putting teams into their best competitive tiers. Associations enter their teams into the tier that they believe a team belongs. The league then sets up games with teams in that tier to see if they can compete.

U18 Avalanche

The Elk Point Avalanche U18 team entered into tier two. They travelled to Vegreville to play the Wranglers this past Friday night, coming back home later that evening with a 4-all tie. William “Billy Bob” Ballas, “Without a Trace” Morgan, Remington “Steel” Reynolds, and “Wild Wyatt” Fontaine all scored a goal in this game. Morris Amyotte, Brendan “Buzz Saw” Kadutski and Jaxon “Smitty” Smith all picked up an apple.

U13 Avalanche

Our U13 Avalanche team is entered into tier three and hosted the Lloydminster 531 team on Saturday afternoon at the A.G. Ross Arena, losing 9 to 5. Tor “The Tornado” Aarbo scored a hat trick, with Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau adding two goals.

Late Sunday afternoon, the U13 Avalanche travelled to Irma to take on the Aces in a wild game that was something similar to the run-and-gun of the Oilers in the ’80s. The final score was 14 to 9 for the Aces. The Tornado with five goals. Big Horn with a hat trick and an assist. Christian “Bones 2.0” Yaremkevich added a goal and an assist. Damian “Fog Horn” Ockerman, Landon “Lights Out” St. Arnault and Rayen “Sting-Ray” Quinney all with an assist. Goalie Tydis Whiskeyjack Cardinal faced 29 shots.

U11 Avalanche

Our U11 Avalanche team is also entered into tier three and had two wins on the weekend. Friday night, they travelled to St. Paul, winning this one 12 to 2. “Hard Knox” Mudryk scored a hat trick and added two assists. Gavin “Badger” Brousseau scored four goals. On Sunday, the U11 Avalanche were evenly matched up against the visiting Mallaig Monarchs. The teams, going back and forth, were tied many times throughout the game, with the Avalanche scoring in the final minute to take the two points.

Badger scored four goals, including the winning goal in the last minute of the third. Badger also took four trips over to the sin bin! Hard Knox scored a goal and added an assist. Lightning also scored a goal. Gunnar “The Road Runner” Kelly and Jackhammer with one assist each. Some great plays on defence by Sunwoo and Dakyo Jung. Both of them doing a solid job of holding the blue line.

This coming week’s schedule has not been released, but all of our Avalanche teams will most likely have a home and an away game.
