RCMP Major Crimes has taken over the investigation into the death of a 12-year-old Edmonton boy whose remains were found near Athabasca last week.
Athabasca RCMP responded to a report of human remains at approximately 3:26 a.m. on Aug. 6.
An autopsy was conducted the following day at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton. Police say the death has been ruled a homicide and the victim has been identified as Fiasal Hussein, 12, of Edmonton.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has now taken carriage of the investigation.
Investigators are specifically asking to hear from anyone who was travelling around Highway 813 near Calling Lake or Range Road 213A, also known as the “C-Road,” between midnight and 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 6.
Anyone who was in the area during that time and has dash camera footage is asked to review it and contact police.
Information can be provided directly to Athabasca RCMP at 780-675-4252. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or P3 Tips.
