The Town of St. Paul will continue supporting local events and organizations after council approved several community grant requests during its July 13 regular meeting.
Council approved one sporting grant along with four facility and in-kind requests under the Town’s Community Grant Funding Policy (CS1200-11), which provides financial and non-financial support to community groups that benefit local residents.
The approved requests include:
- U13 AA and U15 AA Provincial Hockey Tournaments – $1,000 sporting grant.
- Pride St. Paul – 50 percent discount on the Multi-Purpose Room rental, along with a pool pass and Town promotional items valued at $150.
- St. Paul & District Chamber of Commerce – 50 percent discount on hall and Multi-Purpose Room rentals, plus a promotional package of Town apparel and local merchandise.
- St. Paul Minor Ball – 50 percent discount on ball diamond rentals for its provincial tournament.
- St. Paul Search and Rescue – 50 percent discount on the Reunion Station rental for a community barbecue.
Supporting local events
While the requests were ultimately approved, council briefly discussed the Minor Ball request to ensure it aligned with the Town’s grant policy and previous funding decisions.
Administration noted that council had not previously considered discounted ball diamond rentals for tournament hosting, prompting a discussion about maintaining consistency for future requests. After reviewing the policy, council determined the request qualified for consideration on a case-by-case basis and approved it.
Mayor Glenn Andersen said hosting tournaments and community events benefits the town, while councillors acknowledged the importance of applying the policy fairly for all organizations.
Grant budget nearing annual allocation
Administration reported the Town has approved $11,220 in cash grants so far in 2026 from its $15,000 annual grant budget, leaving $3,780 available for the remainder of the year.
In addition to cash funding, the Town has provided:
- $10,300.50 in waived facility rental fees
- $845 in gifts-in-kind
- $5,000 in capital grant funding
Combined, community grant requests submitted to the Town in 2026 total $22,365.50.
Council approved all grant requests as recommended by administration.
