A suspected tornado caused damage in the Tulliby Lake area Saturday afternoon after Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the region.
At 5:51 p.m., Environment Canada warned that meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm producing a tornado. The storm was located just northwest of Onion Lake and moving east at approximately 60 km/h. The warning has since been cancelled.
Following the storm, the County of Vermilion River confirmed Protective Services crews responded to the area and found damage to several structures, oilfield sites and vegetation. No injuries have been reported.
The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) and the Northern Tornadoes Project have been notified and are investigating the damage to determine the tornado’s strength and officially classify the event.
ATCO also reported power outages affecting residents in the area, with restoration expected overnight.
A photo shared from the area appears to show a tornado on the ground during the storm, although official confirmation is still pending as investigators complete their assessment.
As of 12:30 a.m. Sunday, there were no active weather watches or warnings in effect for the area.
