LIBRARY MANAGER & CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER (CAO)

The Bonnyville Municipal Library Board is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and community-minded leader to serve as its next Library Manager & Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). This full-time, permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant community hub that supports lifelong learning, creativity, connection, and discovery.

Working closely with the Library Board, staff, volunteers, and regional partners, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and help shape the future of library services for Bonnyville and the surrounding region.

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
  • Location: Bonnyville, Alberta
  • Salary: $75,000–$95,000 annually (commensurate with experience and qualifications)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Library Information Technology Diploma, Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS), or equivalent post-secondary education
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising, coaching, and developing staff and volunteers
  • Experience working in a public library, municipal, non-profit, community development, recreation, cultural, educational, or similar leadership environment
  • Experience with budgeting, financial management, reporting, and organizational planning
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to lead organizational change while fostering a collaborative workplace culture
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with boards, committees, or governance structures
  • Knowledge of current library trends, public service delivery, and community engagement practices
  • Familiarity with Alberta’s Libraries Act and Regulations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall leadership, administration, and operational oversight of the Bonnyville Municipal Library
  • Develop and implement strategic direction in collaboration with the Library Board
  • Oversee financial management, budgeting, reporting, and organizational planning
  • Lead, mentor, and support library staff and volunteers
  • Foster strong relationships with community organizations, regional partners, and stakeholders
  • Support the Library Board through governance, policy development, and administrative leadership
  • Guide the organization through growth, change, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure high-quality library services, programs, and community engagement initiatives
  • Represent the library within regional library networks and professional organizations

ABOUT THE BONNYVILLE MUNICIPAL LIBRARY:

  • Serves the Town of Bonnyville and surrounding communities
  • Member of the Northern Lights Library System (NLLS), The Regional Automation Consortium (TRAC), and The Alberta Library
  • Serves a regional population of approximately 14,000 residents
  • Located in Alberta’s Lakeland region, offering exceptional recreation, strong community connections, and an outstanding quality of life
