Road safety and transportation infrastructure were the focus of a recent meeting between County of St. Paul Reeve Glen Ockerman and Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul MLA Scott Cyr.
The pair met to discuss transportation priorities identified by the county, including the condition of local highways, intersection safety and future infrastructure needs across the region.
According to Cyr, maintaining a safe and reliable transportation network remains essential for residents, businesses and the agricultural sector.
“We had a productive conversation about the condition of local highways, intersection safety, and the importance of ensuring that northeastern Alberta’s transportation network continues to support residents, agriculture, industry, and economic growth,” Cyr said.
Infrastructure key to regional growth
Transportation continues to be a major priority for rural municipalities, where highways and local roads play a critical role in connecting communities, moving agricultural products and supporting industry.
As northeastern Alberta continues to grow, local leaders have emphasized the need for infrastructure investments that improve safety while supporting future economic development.
“These are issues that matter to communities across the region,” Cyr said, adding that he appreciates the county’s ongoing advocacy on behalf of its residents.
Working with the province
Cyr said his office is working alongside the County of St. Paul and provincial officials to ensure local concerns are considered in planning future transportation projects.
While acknowledging that not every project can move forward immediately, he said ongoing discussions help keep regional priorities on the province’s radar.
“It’s important that communities have a strong voice in the planning process and that safety remains a priority,” Cyr said.
Continuing the conversation
The meeting reflects ongoing collaboration between municipal and provincial leaders as communities across northeastern Alberta continue to advocate for highway improvements, safer intersections, and transportation infrastructure that supports both residents and economic growth.
Cyr thanked Reeve Ockerman and County Council for continuing to raise local transportation concerns.
“I look forward to continuing to work together to advance priorities that strengthen communities across the region,” he said.
