With broken hearts, the family of Herbert “Herb” Chesley Butt of Bonnyville, Alberta, formerly of Perry’s Cove, Newfoundland, announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at the age of 73 years.

As a young man, Herb enjoyed being active and playing many sports such as hockey, softball and darts; he also spent a lot of his time hunting and fishing. Later in life, one of Herb & Dolores’ favorite things to do was watch their grandchildren play sports, and if he was well enough, rest assured you’d find them both in the stands cheering them on.

Herb was also a big fan of the local hockey teams, the Jr. A Pontiacs and the Sr. Pontiacs; he was so incredibly proud this year when the Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs won the SaskAlta League Championship in March.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories is his wife of 51 years: Dolores Butt of Bonnyville, AB; daughters: Dana (Trent) Lahey of Bonnyville, AB, Susan Clemens of Cold Lake, AB; grandchildren: Ashley Clemens, Chris (Avery) Lahey, Abigail Clemens, Cody Lahey (Solana Gandolfi), Jax Clemens Snaith; treasured great grandchildren: Isaiah Clemens, Brynlee Lahey; brother: Andrew (Rosalind) Butt; brothers-in-law: Ross (Audrey) Slade, Bruce (Minnie) Slade, Guy Slade; sisters-in-law: Trudy Butt, Della Emberley; best friends: Hector King, and his late wife, Pauline; and Tyson Hollett; fur baby: Nacho; Herb will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.

Herb was predeceased by his parents: Cecil & Irene Butt; brother: Max Butt; sisters: Nina (Mike) Harvey, Ethel Noseworthy-Mercer (first husband, Ed and second husband, Jim), Audrey Dooley; parents-in-law: Albert & Phyllis Slade; grandson: Mark Lahey; nephew: Karl Harvey.
