A familiar face in schools across the Cold Lake region is being recognized at the provincial level for her commitment to Indigenous education, cultural understanding and student success.

Dani Moore of Cold Lake First Nations has been awarded the Public School Boards Association of Alberta (PSBAA) Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Award. The honour was presented during a ceremony in Calgary this past weekend.

Moore serves as the Indigenous School Liaison for Cold Lake First Nations, working closely with Northern Lights Public Schools and schools throughout the Cold Lake area.

According to Northern Lights Public Schools, Moore has played a key role in creating meaningful learning opportunities that help students connect with Indigenous culture, traditions and knowledge. Her work has included organizing fish camps, storytelling events and other hands-on cultural experiences for students.

Beyond supporting students, Moore has also worked with educators and staff to help ensure Indigenous content is delivered in a respectful, accurate and culturally meaningful way in classrooms.

NLPS says Moore is a dedicated advocate for students, helping create welcoming environments where young people feel supported, valued and connected.

The PSBAA Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate leadership and commitment toward advancing reconciliation through education and community engagement.

Moore’s recognition highlights the ongoing efforts of Indigenous leaders, educators and communities working together to strengthen understanding and build meaningful relationships throughout Alberta’s education system.
