Residents across the Bonnyville region can once again proceed under normal fire permitting rules after the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority lifted its Fire Advisory on Tuesday.
The advisory was officially lifted at noon on June 2 following recent rainfall and favourable weather conditions throughout the area. The change applies to the Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87, the Summer Villages of Bonnyville Beach and Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon.
According to the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, the improved conditions have reduced wildfire concerns enough to allow the regular fire permitting process to resume.
While restrictions have been eased, fire officials are reminding residents to continue practicing safe burning habits throughout the season.
Campfires should never be left unattended, and residents are encouraged to follow the “soak it, stir it, soak it again” method to ensure fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area. Wildfires should be reported immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
Officials also encourage residents to monitor Alberta’s fire status updates as conditions can change throughout the summer.
The Fire Advisory had been issued in late May due to dry conditions and wildfire concerns. Recent rainfall across the region helped improve moisture levels, leading to the decision to lift the advisory.
