Fire crews from multiple departments battled a fully involved barn fire late Wednesday night in the McLaughlin area of the County of Vermilion River.
Just after 11 p.m., Paradise Valley Fire Department was initially dispatched for a reported grass fire during stormy weather conditions. While crews were en route, dispatch updated firefighters that the blaze involved a large barn and that the structure was already fully engulfed.
Second alarm assistance was requested from Blackfoot Fire and Rescue and Kitscoty Fire Department, while County #9-6 Operations Officer O. Armitage was also dispatched to assist on scene.
Firefighters utilized a rural water shuttle operation while working to protect nearby exposures and prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding property.
At approximately 1:51 a.m., Paradise Valley Deputy Chief Lyndon Davies, acting as Incident Commander, declared the fire under control. Crews remained on scene overnight conducting fire watch operations to prevent any rekindling.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however officials say the fire is not considered suspicious.
