Frog Lake First Nations Council says it has launched an independent review involving Chief Greg Desjarlais and Nation governance, with the Chief now placed on temporary paid administrative leave while the process moves forward.
In a public statement released by Frog Lake First Nations Council #121 and #122, council said the review process began after concerns and information were brought forward for consideration.
According to the statement, council convened a meeting with Chief Desjarlais on May 4, 2026, where he was presented with the concerns, provided with relevant materials and given an opportunity to review the information and respond.
“Following that meeting, Council carefully considered both the information presented and the responses received,” the statement reads.
Council says after reviewing the material and responses, it determined additional examination was necessary and that the matter would be best addressed through an independent investigation process.
“To protect the integrity of that investigation and to ensure the orderly administration of the Nation while the process is ongoing, Council has placed Chief Desjarlais on a temporary administrative leave with pay,” the statement said.
Frog Lake First Nations emphasized the administrative leave is precautionary in nature and not disciplinary.
“This measure is precautionary and administrative in nature. It is intended to allow the investigation to proceed without interference and to maintain stable governance during this period,” council stated. “This action does not represent a finding of wrongdoing, and no conclusions have been made.”
Council also stated it is focused on transparency, accountability and ensuring the matter is handled fairly and independently while continuing to act in the best interests of the Nation and its members.
No timeline for the investigation was provided. Frog Lake First Nations says further updates will be shared once the investigation has been completed and findings have been reviewed.
