Frog Lake First Nations Council has announced several independent investigations involving governance and financial matters within the Nation, including a review concerning Chief Greg Desjarlais, an investigation into former Chief Financial Officer Kevin Price, and an external audit review involving Ayîk Sâkahikan Awâsisak Mâmawinitowin Society (ASAM).

The statements were released publicly by Frog Lake First Nations Council #121 and #122.

Chief Desjarlais placed on paid administrative leave

In one statement, council confirmed it has initiated what it described as an independent process to review matters concerning Chief Desjarlais and Nation governance.

According to council, a meeting was held with Desjarlais on May 4, 2026, where concerns and relevant materials were presented to him, and he was given an opportunity to review the information and respond.

“Following that meeting, Council carefully considered both the information presented and the responses received,” the statement reads. “Based on that review, Council determined that there are matters requiring further examination and that these issues are best addressed through an independent investigation process.”

Council stated Chief Desjarlais has been placed on temporary administrative leave with pay while the investigation proceeds.

The Nation emphasized the leave is precautionary and administrative in nature and “does not represent a finding of wrongdoing, and no conclusions have been made.”

Council also stated the measure is intended to protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure stable governance during the process.

Investigation launched into former CFO Kevin Price

A separate statement confirmed Frog Lake First Nations has also launched an independent forensic investigation involving former Chief Financial Officer Kevin Price.

According to council, external professionals have been retained to conduct a detailed review of financial transactions and related records over a defined period.

“The purpose of this investigation is to ensure that Nation funds have been managed appropriately and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and governance practices,” the statement reads.

Council said the review includes financial documentation, transaction records and administrative processes to determine whether improvements or corrective actions may be required.

The Nation noted the investigation remains in its early stages and that “no findings or conclusions have been made.”

Council stated the investigation is part of an effort to strengthen governance, accountability and transparency moving forward.

External audit review identifies accounting irregularities involving ASAM

In a third statement, Frog Lake First Nations confirmed MNP LLP has been retained to investigate Ayîk Sâkahikan Awâsisak Mâmawinitowin Society (ASAM).

According to council, the investigation stems from “accounting irregularities identified during an external audit review.”

While the investigation continues, Frog Lake stated ASAM will continue operating as normal.

“Any questions regarding the operations of ASAM may be directed to Jacob Hardy,” the statement noted.

Council did not provide additional details regarding the nature of the accounting irregularities or timelines for the investigations.

Frog Lake First Nations says further updates will be provided once investigations are completed and findings have been reviewed.
