A Do Not Consume Water Advisory has been issued for the Beaver Lake Public Water Supply effective immediately due to excessive chlorine levels in the system.

The advisory, issued May 20, 2026 by Indigenous Services Canada and the Medical Officer of Health, applies to the Beaver Lake Cree Nation community near Lac La Biche.

Residents are being told not to use tap water for:

  • Drinking
  • Making ice
  • Preparing baby formula
  • Juice or drink mixes
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Food preparation

Officials say boiling the water will NOT make it safe.

Community members are advised to use bottled water or another safe water source until further notice.

The notice has been distributed to key community locations including the Health Centre, school, Band Office, daycare and stores.
