One Person Dead Following Head-On Collision on Highway 55 Near Bonnyville
A 35-year-old Cold Lake man is dead following a serious head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck on Highway 55 near Range Road 480 Friday morning.
Bonnyville RCMP say officers responded to the collision at approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 15. Preliminary investigation indicates the crash involved a pickup truck and a semi-truck hauling an empty trailer.
The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 39-year-old man from Cold Lake, was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries before being transported to hospital for further medical care.
Highway 55 remains open to one lane while cleanup crews continue working at the scene. RCMP say cleanup efforts are expected to continue for several more hours and are asking motorists to slow down around emergency personnel and traffic control crews for everyone’s safety.
Bonnyville RCMP thanked the public for their cooperation while emergency crews responded to the collision.
Police were assisted by Alberta RCMP’s Real Time Operation Centre, an RCMP Collision Analyst, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, Associated Ambulance (Bonnyville), Cold Lake RCMP, Bonnyville Community Peace Officers and Emcon Services Inc.
Bonnyville RCMP also extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
