Cold Lake First Nations is advising members to prepare for significant rainfall over the coming days, with forecasts calling for up to 50 mm of precipitation. Some areas may also see snowfall.

With the ground already saturated, there is an increased risk of localized flooding, fast-rising creeks and poor road conditions throughout the Nation.

As the May Long Weekend approaches, residents are encouraged to take precautions now.

Important reminders for residents:

• Check your sump pump and make sure it is working

• Ensure water is draining away from your home

• Conserve water over the weekend to help reduce pressure on water and sewer services

• Stock up on groceries, water, medications and other essentials where possible

• Be aware that some driveways and roads may become difficult to access

• Stay away from rivers, creeks and flooded areas, as water levels can rise quickly and without warning

Public Works crews are monitoring conditions and preparing for areas that may be impacted by flooding.
