Ron Smith has been named Elk Point’s 2026 Volunteer of the Year, recognized for his longstanding dedication and contributions to multiple community organizations.

The announcement was made by the Town of Elk Point during Volunteer Appreciation Month.

Smith was honoured for his ongoing involvement with groups including the Elk Point & District Lions, Elk Point Allied Arts Centre and the Bingo Association, along with many other initiatives where he has donated his time over the years.

The Town noted that Smith’s recognition reflects “endless efforts” and a commitment to supporting the community without expectation of recognition.

Strong group of nominees

Council and administration also highlighted the strength of this year’s nominations, noting that the decision was a difficult one for the judging panel.

Five other volunteers were nominated for the award:

  • Morris Irvine
  • Ruth Vogel
  • Crystal Boorse
  • Brianne Greening
  • Courtney Kelly

Officials said all nominees were highly deserving, with the final decision described as “nearly impossible” for the three community judges.

Recognizing community impact

The award is part of the Town’s efforts to recognize local volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Month and highlight the role they play in building and supporting the community.

In a statement, the Town thanked all nominees and volunteers for their contributions.

“We thank you for everything you do in the community in making Elk Point ‘the right place to be.’”
