Residents in St. Paul’s Spring Creek neighbourhood woke up to the aftermath of a busy and unsettling night, as RCMP confirmed multiple reports of suspicious activity, property damage and break-ins on April 16.
Police say complaints began coming in early that morning, prompting an investigation with support from the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit.
One arrested, second suspect still wanted
RCMP identified two male suspects. One has been arrested, while the second remains at large.
Claude Shirt, 31, of St. Paul, has been charged with:
- Break and enter with intent
- Theft under $5,000
He was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on April 23.
Frank Jackson, 27, of Saddle Lake, is also facing charges of:
- Break and enter with intent
- Theft under $5,000
RCMP are actively trying to locate Jackson and are asking the public for help.
Police credit community tips
St. Paul RCMP say the investigation moved quickly thanks to residents reporting what they saw directly to police.
“We would like to thank the community for reporting these crimes directly to the St. Paul RCMP as this information was helpful in our investigations and ultimately led to an arrest,” said Staff Sgt. David Graham, Detachment Commander.
He also reminded residents that police do not accept complaints through social media and urged anyone with information about suspicious activity or property crime to call RCMP directly.
