Lac La Biche County leadership is continuing to push forward on key priorities, following a pair of meetings with provincial ministers focused on economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Mayor Paul Reutov said he and members of council met with Alberta’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Brian Jean, and Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Grant Hunter, to discuss initiatives aligned with the County’s Council Action Plan.

Focus on industry growth and local opportunity

The first meeting centred on expanding local industry and identifying new opportunities within the natural resources sector.

The discussion ties directly to one of council’s long-term goals — attracting industry, investment and families to live and work in Lac La Biche County.

Councillors John Mondal and David McDonald, who serve as council-appointed champions for the Industry Growth portfolio, were also part of the meeting, representing the region’s interests at the provincial level.

Lake health tied to recreation and tourism

A second meeting with Minister Grant Hunter focused on improving the health of local lakes, an issue closely connected to the County’s recreation and tourism priorities.

Healthy lakes play a critical role in supporting outdoor activities, attracting visitors and maintaining quality of life for residents.

Looking ahead

Mayor Reutov said the County is working toward several future initiatives that will support both economic development and environmental stewardship.

Further details are expected as those plans continue to take shape.
