A century of care was celebrated in St. Paul this week, as the St. Paul & District Hospital Foundation marked its 100th anniversary with a packed “Happy Days Gala” focused on the future of local healthcare.

The event brought together community leaders, healthcare workers, elected officials and residents, all rallying around a shared goal — bringing a CT scanner to the St. Therese–St. Paul Healthcare Centre.

CT scanner remains top priority

While the evening carried a strong sense of nostalgia and celebration, the message was clear: improving access to healthcare close to home remains a top priority for the community.

Local MLA Scott Cyr said the addition of a CT scanner would have a direct impact on families across the region.

“Bringing a CT scanner to the St. Paul Hospital… will make a meaningful difference for families… by improving access to care closer to home,” he said.

The project continues to be a major fundraising focus for the Foundation.

Community leadership on display

The gala also highlighted the work of the Foundation board and organizing team, with recognition given to several key contributors, including Ron Wirsta, Yvon Caouette, Pat Laramee and others who helped bring the event together.

Municipal leaders from both Town and County council were also in attendance, signalling ongoing regional support for healthcare initiatives.

“It was also great to see members of both Town and County Council… showing their continued support for local healthcare,” Cyr said.

Recognizing frontline healthcare workers

Beyond fundraising, the evening also served as a moment to recognize the people delivering care every day.

Cyr pointed to the work of Dr. Francis Adebayo, Community Medical Director, and Jamie Malone, Site Manager, along with frontline healthcare staff across the facility.

“Their dedication and care are at the heart of our healthcare system,” he said.

A night of nostalgia and community spirit

The “Happy Days” theme brought a lighter side to the evening, with a 1950s-inspired atmosphere, complete with music, décor and a themed video featuring members of the Foundation board.

Attendees were treated to a throwback experience that organizers say reflected the strong sense of community that has supported healthcare in St. Paul for generations.

Looking ahead

As the Foundation marks 100 years, the focus now turns to the future — and the continued push to enhance local healthcare services.

“A heartfelt thank you to the volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who attended,” Cyr said. “Together, we are… helping move an important step closer to bringing a CT scanner to St. Paul.”

The event underscored what many in attendance already know — that in rural communities like St. Paul, progress often starts with people coming together around a common goal.
