RCMP say blowing snow reduced visibility before head-on crash with semi
A 35-year-old Wainwright man is dead following a head-on collision south of the community last week.
Wainwright RCMP responded to the crash on Feb. 28 at approximately 9 a.m. on Highway 41 near Township Road 444.
What Happened
According to preliminary investigation, a minivan was attempting to pass another vehicle when visibility became obscured by fresh blowing snow. The minivan then collided head-on with an oncoming semi truck and trailer.
The sole occupant of the minivan, a 35-year-old male resident of Wainwright, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 51-year-old male driver of the semi truck was taken by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. He was treated for injuries and later released.
Investigation Ongoing
An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist from the Eastern Alberta District is assisting with the investigation.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
Wainwright RCMP have extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
