Islay Bonspiel Raises $14,000 for County Fire Districts

Published On: February 20, 2026By

The Islay Curling Club has once again turned friendly competition into meaningful community support.

Last week, Steven Westergaard attended a County of Vermilion River Council meeting to present proceeds from the 4th annual Islay Bonspiel. The event raised an impressive $14,000, which will be distributed among the fire districts that make up the County Fire Service.

The annual bonspiel continues to grow, bringing together curlers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters for a weekend that goes far beyond the ice. Funds raised directly support local fire services, helping ensure crews have the resources they need to keep communities safe.

Organizers extend a sincere thank you to everyone who attended, contributed and volunteered to make the event a success.

The Islay Curling Club looks forward to hosting the next bonspiel in 2027.
