Glendon Arena Cleared and Ready for Alberta Winter Games
The Glendon Arena is officially open and ready to welcome Alberta Winter Games athletes this weekend.
After a few unexpected setbacks, the Village of Glendon confirmed on February 12 that all inspections have been completed and the facility is safe for use.
OH&S Stop Order Lifted
Last week, Occupational Health & Safety issued a stop order to allow for abatement and air quality testing after trace amounts of asbestos were detected. The issue was believed to be linked to the removal of old tiles during recent renovations.
The stop order was lifted on February 10 following successful testing and remediation.
Final Inspections Complete
The arena has since passed its final building inspection on February 11, 2026. An occupancy inspection with the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority has also been completed.
Only minor finishing touches remain, including cleaning the board glass.
“We want to put the public at ease, the arena is safe and ready to host Alberta Winter Games athletes this weekend,” said Village of Glendon Chief Administrative Officer Krista Feland. “All of the necessary inspections have been completed and passed. We are excited to be a host community for the games and can’t wait to see the athletes in action.”
With approvals now in place, Glendon is set to welcome athletes, families and fans for a busy Winter Games weekend.
