Pink Day a Big Win for Hockey and Heart in Elk Point

This year marked the 4th annual Pink Day hosted by Elk Point Minor Hockey, raising money for cancer victims connected to the association. This year’s funds were donated to the Jung family, whose two children, Sunwoo and Dakyo, both suit up for the U9 Avalanche.

Every Avalanche team hosted a game on Saturday, with all 50/50 proceeds donated to the cause. Many of the winners also chose to donate their winnings back, showing just how strong the Avalanche hockey community really is.

U7 Avalanche vs Vermilion

Scores aren’t officially kept at this level, but the excitement was real.

Finding the back of the net for the Avalanche were Jackson “Lumberjack” Wood, Lukas “Motley Krew” Mudryk, Axton “Ace” MacKinnon, and Lukas Allen.

Strong setup plays came from Bobbi “Hollywood” Holthe, sister “Darth Vada” Holthe, Elijah Large, Aurora “Ice Queen” Cook, and Cassie Zhou.

Between the pipes, Lukas Allen showed huge potential, putting on a terrific performance during his turn in net.

U9 Avalanche Intersquad Game

The U9s skated a full-ice intersquad matchup, working on offsides and clean shift changes.

Goalies Tucker Pankiw and Griffin Whittaker were stellar at both ends.

William “Too Tall” Farrell was relentless on the forecheck, while Gunnar “The Roadrunner” Kelly impressed with his strong backchecking.

On opposite benches, “Mighty” Cayson Younghans and “Hard Knox” Mudryk went head-to-head every shift.

U11 Avalanche vs Cold Lake

The U11 Avalanche earned a sweet 13–3 win over Cold Lake, avenging a previous loss in Cold Lake earlier this season.

Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau led the charge with six goals and three assists.

Mason “Mini-Wheels” Weir added four goals and two assists, while Maximus “To the Max” Laliberte chipped in a goal and two helpers.

Defenceman Damian “Fog Horn” Ockerman and power forward Jasper “Grizzly” Hymanyk each scored once.

Adding assists were Gavin “Badger” Brousseau, Brady “Bulldozer” Heathcote, and U9 call-up “Lightning” Aksel Aarbo.

U13 Avalanche vs Bonnyville

The U13s battled Bonnyville to an 8–8 tie.

Jase “The Jackal” Malo had a monster game with four goals and two assists.

Goals also came from “Big Horn” Brousseau (U9), “Hurricane Kael” Large, Jadyn “The Shark” Sakowsky, and “General Lee” Barstad, all of whom added assists as well.

Playmaker Grayson “Big Bang” Koppang dished out three assists.

U15 Avalanche Weekend

Playing in the tough Tier 2 league, the U15 Avalanche dropped a game to Hinton.

Jaxon “Magic” Marcoux scored the lone Avalanche goal, assisted by William “Billy Bob” Ballas and Ethan “The Big E” Lorenson.

Goaltender Reid Dechaine faced a heavy workload, stopping shots while facing 72 shots.

The following day in Lac La Biche, the Avalanche came up short again but closed the gap in a 7–4 loss.

Scoring for the Avalanche were Magic Marcoux, Hudson “The Bull” Brousseau, Cade “Eagle Eye” Elliott, and Reid Dechaine.

Billy Bob Ballas added an assist, while Theo “Long Horn” Loughran-Quinney battled hard in net, facing 43 shots.

U18 Avalanche vs Wainwright

The final game of Pink Day saw the U18 Avalanche skate to a 6–6 tie with Wainwright.

Brendan “Buzz Saw” Kadutski and Liam “Sledgehammer” Swedgen each scored two goals and added an assist.

Braylee “Free Willy” Lesyk recorded a goal and two assists, while “Wild Wyatt” Fontaine added a goal and a helper.

Assists also came from Morris Amyotte, Remington “Steel” Reynolds, and Tristan “Bob Cat” Brousseau.

In net, Owen “Ollie the Goalie” Grykuliak faced 20 shots.
