Junior A Hockey Team Involved in Early Morning Bus Crash South of Athabasca

RCMP have not released the name of the Junior A hockey team involved in an early morning bus crash south of Athabasca on Thursday, December. 12.

What Happened

Athabasca RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision during the early morning hours of Dec. 12, 2025. The bus was travelling southbound when it lost control and entered the west ditch.

The bus was transporting youth athletes between the ages of 15 and 19.

Injuries Reported

Several occupants sustained injuries in the crash.

  • Two youths were transported to an Edmonton hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

  • Others reported minor injuries or soreness and were treated at the scene

  • No fatalities were reported

Emergency Response

RCMP were assisted at the scene by:

  • County of Athabasca Fire Department

  • County Peace Officers

  • Emergency Medical Services

Road Conditions a Factor

Road conditions are believed to have contributed to the collision. At the time, highways in the area were partially snow-covered with icy sections. Temperatures were extremely cold, sitting around -37°C.

RCMP Reminder to Motorists

Athabasca RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down and adjust to winter driving conditions, especially during extreme cold and adverse weather.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution, allow more stopping distance, and travel prepared when temperatures and road conditions deteriorate.
