Elk Point Launches Planning for 40th Annual Christmas Extravaganza

With just weeks to go, preparations are well underway for Elk Point’s 40th Annual Christmas Extravaganza, a community tradition that transforms the town into a festive showcase from one end to the other. The Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Committee (EDC) are working behind the scenes to ensure this milestone year delivers one of the brightest celebrations yet on Friday, 28 November.

New Lights, New Energy

One of the biggest upgrades this year is the addition of new lights for the towering trees east of the EcoCentre. After last season’s display saw only partial illumination, fresh strands have now arrived. They’ll be secured with zip ties to stand up to winter winds, while any old lights that still work will be repurposed to brighten the cabin, gazebo and possibly a lit pathway along the Forest of Lights.
Chamber president Brianne Greening is coordinating with an installer to bring the display to life in time for the 5 p.m. light-up ceremony.

Fireworks to Cap the Night

At the far end of the grounds, the lighting will stretch even higher as the annual fireworks show closes out the evening. Organisers have already confirmed this year’s reservation with the fireworks provider, with the show set to launch north of the A.G. Ross Arena once the evening’s events wrap up.

Community Partners in Motion

Extravaganza committee chair Shirley Harms is reaching out to local partners—Town of Elk Point staff, the Lions Club, the RCMP and the Elk Point Fire Department—to line up support for both preparation and parade night.
Businesses are also being invited to sponsor displays and take part in programming that will begin as early as 3 p.m. with activities for kids. The parade will roll out at 6 p.m., followed by more family-friendly events throughout the evening.

Filling the Craft Show Gap

One long-time staple of the Extravaganza weekend—the Crusader Craft Show at F.G. Miller High School—has been cancelled this year. Harms is exploring options to bring another craft show into the lineup so local makers and shoppers don’t miss out.

As plans come together, Elk Point is gearing up for a milestone year of lights, fireworks and community celebration—forty years strong and still growing.
