Community gathers to celebrate service and remember Firefighter Peter Neufeld
The Glendon Volunteer Fire Department hosted its 6th Annual Fall Ball this past weekend, bringing together firefighters, families, and community members to celebrate the men and women who serve through the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA).
The evening was filled with pride and reflection as attendees honoured the firefighters who protect the Municipal District of Bonnyville through stations in Bonnyville, Glendon, Goodridge, Iron River, La Corey, Fort Kent, Ardmore, and a contracted station in Cold Lake. Together, these crews respond to emergencies across a vast area—everything from highway collisions and wildfires to structure fires and medical calls.
This year’s celebration carried special meaning, as the department remembered Firefighter Peter Neufeld, a respected and much-loved member of the Glendon Fire Department who passed away earlier this month. His dedication, humour, and faith left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with.
In Neufeld’s honour, the department introduced a new tradition—the Weiner Award—a lighthearted recognition meant to celebrate camaraderie and the small moments that bring firefighters closer together. The award captures the spirit of teamwork and friendship that Neufeld embodied both on and off duty.
Community leaders from across the region attended, including representatives from the Village of Glendon, the Town of Bonnyville, and the M.D. of Bonnyville, alongside BRFA leadership. Their presence reflected a shared appreciation for the volunteers and professionals who put their safety on the line to protect others.
The evening, hosted by Chief Dan Amalia and Captain Derek Cote, once again demonstrated what makes the Glendon Fire Department special—strong leadership, genuine community spirit, and a deep commitment to service.
As MLA Scott Cyr, who attended the event, noted, the Fall Ball is a reminder of what it means to stand united in service. “The dedication and teamwork shown by the Glendon firefighters truly reflect the best of what community service stands for,” he said.
From laughter and stories to moments of remembrance, the night highlighted the heart of Glendon’s volunteer firefighters—courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the Lakeland.
