Recognised for building bridges between schools and Indigenous communities
Northern Lights Public Schools has presented Dani Moore from Cold Lake First Nations with a 2025 Friends of Education Award, celebrating her leadership, advocacy, and dedication to strengthening relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in education.
Moore serves as the Indigenous School Liaison for Cold Lake First Nations, working closely with NLPS schools in Cold Lake. Her efforts have connected students and staff with local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and traditional teachings, helping to create meaningful, culturally rich learning experiences.
Under her guidance, students have taken part in fish camps, storytelling sessions, and hands-on cultural workshops that deepen understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing. Moore has also supported teachers in delivering Indigenous content respectfully and confidently, while organizing professional learning opportunities to enhance staff awareness.
Her advocacy ensures Cold Lake First Nations students feel supported and valued within their schools. Through this ongoing partnership, Moore has helped build a foundation of inclusion, respect, and reconciliation that will benefit the community for years to come.
Moore is one of two recipients of the 2025 Friends of Education Award. A full list of this year’s and past recipients can be found on the Northern Lights Public Schools website.
