Avalanche Back on the Ice at the A.G. Ross Arena
It’s that time of year again — minor hockey is up and running! Here at the A.G. Ross Arena, with the newly installed ice plant, every one of our minor hockey teams — with the exception of the U7s — hosted a home game this past weekend.
The U9 Avalanche hit the ice on Sunday with a full bench of 15 or 16 players. No official score was recorded in this one.
In the first month of play in the North East League, all games are for tiering purposes, so some of the scores can be very one-sided. That held true this weekend — some of our teams won big, while others took tough losses by double digits.
U11 Avalanche
The U11 Avalanche had a strong weekend with two close games — a Friday night win in Dewberry and another at home on Saturday against Chauvin/Edgerton. Second-year veterans Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau, Landon “Lights Out” St. Arnault, and Maximus “To the Max” Liliberta netted the majority of the goals.
Damian “Foghorn” Ockerman and Winston Ung also added to the tally. Blake “The Rattlesnake” Fontaine, Brady Heathcote, and Gavin “The Badger” Brousseau picked up assists. Tydis Whiskeyjack Cardinal stood tall between the pipes for both games.
U13 Avalanche
The U13 Avalanche cruised to an easy win on Saturday against St. Paul. Defenceman Jase “The Jackal” Malo went end-to-end to score half a dozen goals. Grayson “Big Bang” Koppang, Kael Large, and Christian “Bones 2.0” Yaremkevich also found the back of the net.
Thomas “The Tank” Morris, Jaydn “The Shark” Sakowski, Rylan “Freight Train” Kryzanowski, and Obrey John notched assists. On Sunday, the U13s took one on the chin from a strong Cold Lake squad. Benjamin “Benny Boy” Saddleback strapped on the big pads for both games.
U15 Avalanche
The U15s split their weekend, with one win and one loss. On Saturday at home, they fell to a strong Vegreville team. But on Sunday, they bounced back in Vermilion, beating the Tigers on the road.
Scoring for the Avalanche were Cade “Eagle Eye” Elliot, Grayson “Slim” Skakun, William “Billy Bob” Ballas, Hudson “The Bull” Brousseau, and Hunter “Hardrock” Pankiw. “Fearless Frank” Killiam and Lennox “All Out” St. Arnault added assists. Reid Sayers and Theo “Longhorn” Laughran Quinney shared goaltending duties.
U18 Avalanche
The U18s battled to a 4–4 tie at home on Saturday against the Cold Lake Ice, then dropped Sunday’s matchup in the Border City against the Blazers.
Goals came from “Wild Wyatt” Fontaine, Braylee “Free Willy” Lesyk, Tristan “Bob Cat” Brousseau, and Bently Looy. Anton “A-Bomb” Braithwaite, Remington “Steel” Reynolds, Cade Sayers, Evett “Snoop Dog” Smereka, and Dominque Krankowsky collected assists. Owen “Ollie the Goalie” Grykuliak and Drayden “The Wall” Skayden shared time in net.
