This Thanksgiving long weekend, Alberta RCMP will step up enforcement targeting impaired, distracted, and unsafe driving as part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s #OperationImpact2025 campaign — a national effort to make Canada’s roads among the safest in the world.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “Safety is in MY hands.” Everyone plays a part in keeping roads safe by following these key reminders:

  • Don’t drive impaired: Drugs or alcohol slow your judgment and reaction time. Impaired driving is both dangerous and criminal.

  • Don’t drive tired: Fatigue affects focus and reaction speed, putting everyone on the road at risk.

  • Stay focused: Avoid texting, calling, or adjusting devices while driving. Set your GPS or music before hitting the road.

  • Buckle up: Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly secured with a seat belt or car seat.

  • Drive responsibly: Follow speed limits, stay calm, and avoid aggressive driving.

“Over the past few months, we’ve seen several collisions result in fatalities,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “We’re thankful to all road users who make safe and responsible choices this holiday weekend.”

If you see dangerous or impaired driving, call 911.
