Ameera Arabi Named Third Recipient of Clayton Bellamy Foundation for the Arts Scholarship

The spotlight shone on a new star in Bonnyville this past weekend as Ameera Arabi was named the third recipient of the Clayton Bellamy Foundation for the Arts Scholarship, presented in partnership with Craig Senyk Initiatives.

The annual $2,500 award recognizes and supports the next generation of creative talent, a tradition rooted in Bellamy’s own story. When he graduated high school, Clayton received a $2,500 bursary from the Grand Ole Opry to pursue music. Years later, standing on the same Opry stage as a JUNO Award–winning, multi-Platinum artist and five-time Canadian Country Music Award winner, he never forgot that kindness. The moment inspired him to give back, ensuring that young people in his hometown and across the Lakeland region would have the same chance to follow their artistic dreams.

This year, that chance belongs to Ameera Arabi. Accepted into the Bachelor of Arts program at MacEwan University, she arrives with glowing endorsements from her principal, vice-principal, and teachers. Beyond academics, Ameera has distinguished herself through extensive community volunteerism, particularly with youth, showing a passion for making a meaningful difference.

“Ameera is not only an outstanding student, but a dedicated community volunteer with a passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of others, especially youth,” Lise Fielding, President of the Foundation, shared during the Gala. “Her drive, compassion, and commitment to empowering others perfectly embody the spirit of this bursary.”

The scholarship, presented annually with the support of Craig Senyk Initiatives, carries both a $2,500 cash award and a formal certificate, with funds released upon proof of acceptance to a recognized post-secondary institution. While priority is given to students pursuing music or the arts, particular emphasis is placed on those who intend to bring their talents back into classrooms as educators.

For Ameera, this award represents the next step in her academic and creative journey. For the community, it reinforces the Foundation’s mission: to keep Bonnyville and the Lakeland a place where the arts are not only celebrated but also sustained for future generations.

As the evening closed, the Foundation left a message echoing Bellamy’s own path: when you invest in young talent, you don’t just change a career — you change a community.
