Who exactly is Future Considerations?

Hockey fans are left to wonder, particularly in junior hockey, when a trade is announced and the return is the elusive term future considerations.

For the Bonnyville Pontiacs, trading their leading point scorer in Kailus Green on Jan. 8 amidst a playoff pursuit raised some eyebrows. They hope the piece they got back in Cash Ganske is great compensation for the long-term.

The Pontiacs announced officially last Friday that Ganske, a 2006-born defenceman, will be part of the Pontiacs blueline for the upcoming season.

Playing with the Grande Prairie Storm last year, Ganske showed flashes of a strong two-way game.

In his first full season of AJHL hockey, he garnered two goals and 14 assists, and some second unit powerplay time. He also got ample playoff experience, as the Storm cruised through the North Division to reach the Inter-Pipeline Cup final, and play in the Centennial Cup as a wildcard.

The Pontiacs are hoping to solidify the defensive corps after a tumultuous season defending last year, which will be one of new coach Chad Mercier’s top tasks.

Coming off an All-Rookie Team selection, Ganske has two years of junior eligibility remaining, and 71 Junior A regular season games under his belt, and another 17 in the post-season.
