Ashton Cumby drafted by Chicago Blackhawks in 6th Round

Ashton Cumby is an NHL draft choice.

The Chicago Blackhawks selected Cumby in the 6th round, 162nd overall on day two of the NHL Entry Draft on Saturday afternoon.

The Bonnyville product is an overage prospect whose 20th birthday is just a few weeks away.

He’s played with the Seattle Thunderbirds for parts of the last two seasons, collecting two goals and 11 assists in 2024-25.

What Cumby has is size. He is 6’5″ and roughly 220lbs and has drawn attention with his fists and his ability to play a rugged game.

The former Lakeland Panther U15AA worked his way up to the Lloyd Bobcats AAA program, before earning a callup to the Winnipeg Ice in 2021-22.

He’s played a total of 197 Western Hockey League games.
