GALLERY: Goals for Trees program sees Jr. A Pontiacs partner & plant 153 seedlings

The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs piloted a program last hockey season with Imperial Oil Cold Lake that will have long-lasting effects in the community.

The Goals for Trees program saw a partnership where they would plant one tree for every goal scored this past regular season. Plotted out beside the Iron Horse Trail staging area and RV station dump, behind the RCMP detachment, sit 153 budding trees to grow for years to come.

Mayor and councillors from the Town of Bonnyville, LICA, as well as the Pontiacs staff and Imperial Oil staff came together Wednesday afternoon to get to work.

“It’s great to see a collobration between many groups,” said Vice-President of Operations, Neil Langridge, Bonnyville Pontiacs. “Our friends at the Town are going to come down and water the trees after we plant them.”

The Bonnyville Tree Nursery supplied the seedlings as well for the occasion.

“It’s always great to have our teams from Imperial Oil Cold Lake on a day out,” said

“Environment is a really important piece for our business, and collobration with LICA and the Town and the Bonnyville Pontiacs, it was just the perfect idea to come together to plant some trees and support our environmental mission. As well as the youth with the Pontiacs team, and our local teams too.”
