Elk Point Avalanche Teams Dominate the NEAHL

It was a fantastic weekend for all our Elk Point Avalanche teams, who played strong competition in the North East Alberta Hockey League and came out on top.

U15 Avalanche Go Undefeated

Starting on Thursday night at home, the U15 Avalanche had a 7-2 win over the Lloydminster Blazers, with Wild Wyatt Fontaine scoring four goals in this one. Then, on Friday night, the U15s defeated the Cold Lake Ice 9-6. Reese ‘Stone Cold’ Winterbottom and Tristan ‘Bob Cat’ Brousseau each scored two goals and added two assists. Remington ‘Steel’ Reynolds, William ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas, and Jaxon ‘Smitty’ Smith each scored a goal, while Jaxon ‘Magic’ Marcoux tallied four assists. Goaltender Theo ‘Long Horn’ Loughran was solid between the pipes in both games.

But the real test came on Saturday when the U15 Avalanche travelled to Provost to take on the top team in the North Division, the Blades, and won 4-2—proving they can skate with the best Tier Two teams in the league. Liam ‘Sledgehammer’ Swedgen and Bob Cat each notched a goal and an assist. Remington Steel and Stone Cold also found the back of the net, while Wild Wyatt contributed three assists. Goaltender ‘Ollie the Goalie’ Grykuliak delivered an outstanding performance, stepping up just hours after returning from a holiday down south.

U13 Avalanche Bounce Back

The U13 Avalanche team started sluggish in the Border City on Saturday, losing 5-3. Hudson ‘The Bull’ Brousseau, Tor ‘The Tornado’ Aarbo, and Stetson ‘Shack’ Reynolds each scored a goal, while defenceman Lennox ‘All Out’ St. Arnault added an assist.

But on Sunday, the team came alive on home ice at A.G. Ross Arena, playing one of their best games all season against one of the top teams in the division, the Hughenden Jets, and winning 7-5. Hunter ‘Hard Rock’ Pankiw recorded a hat trick and two assists. The Tornado added two goals, The Bull had a goal and four assists, and power forward ‘Fearless’ Frank Killiam also scored. Solid defenceman Hudson ‘The Hammer’ Krankowsky assisted on three goals. Goaltender ‘Major Tom’ Melnyk faced 40+ shots and shut down the Jets in a stellar performance.

U11 Avalanche Prove Their Growth

The last time the U11 Avalanche faced the CNN Spurs earlier this season in Bon Accord, they had a rough game after being moved to Tier Two, coming home outplayed and outscored by double digits. But since then, this team has put in the hard work at practice and become a top contender in the division.

On Sunday morning at 10 a.m., they played the Spurs again—this time on home ice—and came out with a 9-5 victory. Team captain Jase ‘The Jackal’ Malo scored a hat trick and added three assists. Cohen ‘Big Horn’ Brousseau also notched a hat trick and an assist, with two of his goals coming shorthanded as he snuck past the Spurs’ defence. Aspyn ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly, who opened the scoring for the Avalanche, also recorded a hat trick. Christian ‘Bones 2.0’ Yaremkevich and Blake ‘The Rattlesnake’ Fontaine contributed assists, while goaltender Benny Boy Saddleback was superb, facing 41 shots.

U18 Avalanche Shine Against Top Teams

The U18 Avalanche weren’t to be outdone by the younger teams, putting together a fantastic weekend of their own. On Friday night in Smoky Lake, they secured a 5-2 victory over the Northstars. ‘Top Gunner’ Crawford led the way with two goals, while Without a Trace Morgan and Anton ‘A-Bomb’ Braithwaite each recorded a goal and an assist. Brendan ‘Buzz Saw’ Kadutski also found the net, with his brother Gavin ‘Green Light’ Kadutski adding two assists. Kaysen ‘Dynamite’ DeMossiac contributed an assist as well. Goaltender ‘Goodyear Charlie’ Lesyk stood tall, stopping 27 shots in the win.

Then, on Super Bowl Sunday, the U18s faced the division’s top team, the St. Paul Canadiens, and came away with a 6-3 victory. Without a Trace Morgan led the charge with two goals and an assist. Green Light, A-Bomb, Top Gunner, and Madden ‘Mad Dog’ Flamand each scored a goal, while team captain Kaleb ‘Formula One’ Flamand dished out two assists. Dynamite added another assist, and goaltender Drayden ‘The Wall’ Skakum had a rock-solid game, stopping 37 shots.
