The 86Cancer’s charity hockey game event was a rousing success.
Last Friday, the Whalers played the Flyers in front of fans at Imperial Oil Place, raising a total of $20,074 towards local cancer initiatives.
This total roughly doubles the overall fundraising the group has attained in the previous years.
The volunteer group says that $10K will be designated for the Bonnyville Cancer Clinic. The remaining funds will be allocated to their Oilers Experience, and to help 86Cancer continue to grow its reach and impact.
“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, volunteers, and players for their invaluable contributions, as well as to everyone who attended and donated. Your support and generosity are truly inspiring! Thank you all,” they said on social media.
The local area has rallied around this project in the last few years and has had great municipal buy in, with Mayor Craig Copeland and Reeve Barry Kalinski going head to head in the shootout during an intermission.
