It’s time to get on the hard water.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs 5th annual Hard Water Classic is fast approaching on Saturday, with two different lakes in the fold.

Competitors can pitch their tent and reel their rod in both Moose Lake and Angling Lake this year.

“I’m happy that we’ve made it five years and things have changed, but one thing that hasn’t is that it’s been a great event for us,” said associate general manager Neil Langridge.

“It’s a chance for families and everyone to get out to enjoy a little fun competition.”

LSC Industrial has stepped up to become the first presenting sponsor, which has allowed the Pontiacs to grow the event, and expand the prizing this year.

The key for the event is the FishDonkey app. That is where you register (all the way up to the day of the tournament) and what you’ll use to measure and record your catches.

Northern pike and walleye is what fishers are after in the various categories in this catch and release event.

Prize winners will be decided by four fish total length for pike and walleye, and the biggest fish for pike and walleye will be awarded to the largest fish of all valid entries.

Youth prize winners will be decided by biggest fish for pike and walleye of all valid entries.

Several sponsors have jumped on board for big-time prizes, that may include hand-crafted lures, an auto-jigger, and an underwater camera.

“We’re looking forward to having more people sign up. It’s going to be a fun day. Regardless of the weather, we’ve had minus 40 and the wind blowing, and days where it’s plus 5 and it’s an unbelievable,” said Langridge.

The action begins at 8:00AM and goes until 5:00PM on Saturday, Feb. 1.
