Rookie standout Porter Byrd-Leitner received league-wide recognition on Tuesday.

Before the Bonnyville Pontiacs face the Grande Prairie Storm tonight on home ice, Byrd-Leitner has been named the AJHL Rookie of the Week.

The first-year Pontiac forward hails from Moorestown, New Jersey, and has been a driver of offensive play this season.

With a three-point effort over the weekend (1G, 2A), the Colgate commit becomes the first Bonnyville rookie to receive this nod this season, and only the second Yak to receive any of the three weekly honours.

Byrd-Leitner is currently on a seven-game point streak (3G, 6A), and has wrestled away first in team scoring (7G, 18A).

Offensive injuries have plagued the Pontiacs up front as of late, with the long term injury of blossoming youngster Dayton Reschny, and recent harm of Mat Lajoie, Byrd-Leitner has been able to provide a rock of consistency down the middle.

He has continued to climb league scoring charts, now sitting 8th amongst first-year players in the AJHL.

Byrd-Leitner is sure to figure strongly in tonight’s matchup against the Grande Prairie Storm.

The Yaks snapped their five-game losing skid on Saturday in a pivotal 4-2 victory over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

Those must-have points but them nine behind the MOB, as they still have five games in hand.

So far this season, they are 1-1 against GP.
