Saddle Lake Resident Charged with First-Degree Murder After Fatal Stabbing
A 61-year-old man has died following a stabbing on Saddle Lake Cree Nation, leading to a first-degree murder charge against a local resident.
On Jan. 8, 2025, St. Paul RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Saddle Lake Cree Nation. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Garvin Lloyd Chisan, with serious injuries. Chisan was transported to the hospital and later airlifted to Edmonton by STARS. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed to investigate the incident. On Jan. 10, 2025, 44-year-old Saddle Lake Cree Nation resident Jeremy Shaun Cardinal was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to Chisan’s death.
Cardinal was brought before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche.
