A compliance check saw a Vermilion River County man found breaching conditions and in possession of drugs.

On Dec. 29, 2024, Vermilion RCMP Detachment conducted a curfew check and found the individual, 30-year-old Christian Ruston, to be breaching.

He was then found on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 and taken into custody, where police said they found an undisclosed quantity of suspected meth.

As a result of this investigation, Ruston has been charged with the following offences:

  • Fail to comply with release order (x2)
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

He was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 14, 2025 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster, Alta.

“Condition compliance checks are one of the initiatives we use locally that allow offenders to be held accountable to their release conditions,” said Sgt. Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander.

“This is a good example of proactive police work with the intention of increasing public safety.”
