Elk Point RCMP seize over 200 grams of drugs
On December 12th, 2024, at approximately 1230 p.m., members of the Elk Point Detachment were conducting patrols on Frog Lake First Nation when they attempted a traffic stop with a stolen utility terrain vehicle which attempted to evade police. The driver of the UTV surrendered after evading police for a short distance, was arrested and taken into custody.
Subsequently, a search of the stolen UTV and driver was conducted. Police located approximately 188 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 10 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, Canadian Currency and other paraphernalia consistently used in drug trafficking.
James Kuzyk, 40, of Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x 3.
Kuzyk was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was released on $500 cash bail. Kuzyk is scheduled to appear in court on January 9th, 2025 at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul.
“This is a significant seizure of drugs that will not be sold in the communities we serve. The Elk Point RCMP will continue to arrest and charge anyone involved in the drug trade. Removing drugs from the streets will assist in protecting public health and safety, reducing crime rates and preventing substance abuse. The Elk Point Detachment would like to thank the Frog Lake Security Team and Emergency services for assisting in locating the stolen UTV.
