A 30-year-old is facing a child abduction charge after allegedly trying to lure a child at a restaurant.

On Dec. 3rd, at approximately 4:42 p.m., Cold Lake RCMP were called to an attempted child abduction at a restaurant located on 50th Street in Cold Lake South.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that a female suspect had entered the establishment, approached the child, and picked them up from their chair. 

The suspect then attempted to leave with the child but was stopped when the family intervened and regained custody of the child. The suspect then fled the area. 

Through active patrols Cold Lake RCMP officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect.

Lynette Scanie, a 30-year-old resident of Cold Lake, has been charged with the following offence:

  • Abduction of a person under 14

Lynette Scanie was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul, Alta.
