Man with gun on the highway arrested; robbery with bear mace investigation: St. Paul RCMP weekly report

Over the past week, the St. Paul RCMP detachment responded to 170 calls for service and executed 17 warrants for arrest.

Man with gun had outstanding warrants

A man on the highway with a gun in the middle of the night was arrested by St. Paul RCMP on Monday, Nov. 11.

The report came into police at roughly 1:00AM near the intersection of Range Road 103 and Highway 29, just west of the airport. 

Police responded the individual fled. RCMP were able to apprehend the suspect and learned he was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Darius Brertton, 32, a resident of Saddle Lake, was additionally charged with:

  • fail to comply with release order condition (x2)
  • resists/obstruct peace officer

He had previously been charged in 2024 with possession of property obtained via crime and drug related charges.

Following a judicial hearing, Darius Brertton was remanded into custody, and was set to appear in the St. Paul Court of Justice on Thursday, Nov. 14. 

Robbery with bear mace

St. Paul RCMP are investigating with a robbery with a weapon early Thursday morning.

Police received a report shortly before 4:00AM of a robbery at a business near 50 Avenue and 52 Street. The employee on site was allegedly sprayed with bear mace, police said, before the suspect left the scene.

Few other details are known at the time.
