While it’s been a lot more than 10 years that Dennis Germain has spent volunteering with the Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs, the North Central Hockey League recognized his decade as the team’s league director at the home opener against the Camrose Bruins on Saturday.
Germain received a nice new Yeti mug before the Sr. Pontiacs contest for the 10 years they’ve been in the NCHL.
“I want to thank to league for doing that,” Germain told Lakeland Connect.

He started with the Sr. Pontiacs in 1984, serving as President, General Manager, Treasurer and League Director over the years.
He was a member of the 3-man committee which presented Bonnyville’s successful bid to the AJHL Board of Directors in 1991. Like his father before him, Dennis has dedicated 40 years to Junior and Senior Pontiac’s hockey.
His dad Rollie worked with the senior club for 40 years, from 1952-1992. This included stretches as Vice President, Assistant Coach and General Manager, and of course, his extensive training in first aid proved him to be better served as a trainer.
That was proven as he was the Jr. A Pontiacs first trainer in 1991.

Dyson Roy, Deondre McCarthy, and Brayden Labant all scored on Saturday, but the Sr. Pontiacs fell short 5-3 to Camrose.
The Bruins have had plenty of practice, as they’ve already played five games this regular season to the Pontiacs one.
The inner workings of the NCHL have changed again this season. Gone are the North and South divisions; back is one table of teams, with Red Deer folding and Stony Plain now in.
An 18-game schedule will see each team play each other twice, home and away.
The Sr. Pontiacs are home again on Sunday, hosting the Wetaskiwin Longhorns (2-1), at 2;30PM.
