An M.D. of Bonnyville councillor is looking to “counter the constant drum beat of climate change activism” after reading a notice of motion at last Tuesday’s council meeting.

Ward 1 councillor Josh Crick is looking for council to proclaim Nov. 2-8 as Climate Stability Awareness Week, seemingly in opposition to climate change.

He brought this issue forward as an item to be discussed by the elected council at the Oct. 22 meeting, using the notice of motion which is at councillor’s disposal.

The motion reads as follows:

“Whereas we know that the weather may change from day to day, and whereas the climate is relatively consistent from year to year, and whereas there is little to be concerned about as the Earth’s climate is very predictable, and whereas to counter the constant drum beat of climate change activism now therefore be it resolved that Council approves the proclamation of Nov. 2 to 8, 2024 as Climate Stability Awareness Week in the Municipal District of Bonnyville.”

Some areas in Canada proclaim Nov. 2-8 as Climate Action Week.

Crick reads the notice of motion at the Oct. 8th meeting. The meeting can be seen online with the motion coming at roughly the 20:00 mark.

Last Tuesday was the first regular meeting of council after letting go of CAO Al Hoggan. Matt Janz, General Manager of Environmental and Protective Services, is currently the interim chief administrative officer.
